VINYL ALBUM COVER
The main objective of this project is to create a album cover for a musician/music artist and the design must align with the mood/style/characteristics of their band and music which is depicted through the colour scheme, and graphic elements. I am designing a album cover for Coldplay, a rock band and based off their previous music and albums, they generally have a diversed of music genres incorporated in their music such as rock, pop, and Melodic Jazz. i was inspired by their paradise album which has a nostalgic summer feeling and i intend to create a dark backgound to represent the summer night with pops of colours used in this mandala, dove and title graphic elements in the front to show deep contrast and for the front visual elements to stand out. I also created a key chain to pair with this album cover as a souvenir. I was opened to using different paper engineering methods to create a physical prototype of this album cover and then converting it onto photoshop to create my final album cover.
I initially created thumbnail sketches and drawings of my vinyl album cover. I used a dove as a central main graphic element as it represents tranquility, peace and calmness and channels really well with the mandala backgrounds and to create vibrant summer night look. It Laos aligns with the band's aesthetic and music style.
I then created a physical 3D model of the album cover which then can be converted and edited in Adobe photoshop and is a prototype of what the album cover would look like. I used different paper engineering techniques such as creating mandalas and adding origami work for create a 3D look.
